“I’m Naked and I can’t find my 990!” – DON’T PANIC! – Filing your Form 990 online can Save You a Lot of Time!

by Mr. Tracy A. Pounders, Attorney and Counselor at Law

The Pounders Law Firm can help your 501(c) with its Form 990This is the time of the year when many of my clients dream of running naked through school, trying to find the room for a final exam in a class they never attended and didn’t study for. You don’t have to be Sigmund Freud to figure this one out – it’s just time to file the annual 990 tax return to the IRS again.

You can stop losing sleep over your non-profit’s 990 for this year because you’re getting a lot of help this year. For starters, you can always get the form you need online from the IRS at www.IRS.gov. Just do a search for “990,” or if you need an extension, search for “8868.” A PDF copy of the right form will pop up in no time, ready for you to fill in and drop in the mail.

But if spending time on the IRS website isn’t your idea of fun, DO I HAVE SOMETHING COOL FOR YOU!

Check out Form990.org. This website, sponsored by The Urban Institute, is an IRS authorized eFiling website. That’s right, you can file your 990 or 8868 extension online! Listen very carefully and you’ll hear a choir of geeks singing The Hallelujah Chorus!

But wait, there’s more! IT’S FREE!!!

The Urban Institute is making all of its eFiling services available to charities with less than $100,000 in gross receipts for free. And even if your education foundation makes more than that you can file your request for extension for free, no matter how much you make. Check out their policy HERE.
